This season is the perfect time to up your skincare game and take your self-care seriously. And is there any better way to take care of yourself than a good skincare routine?
Skincare never goes out of style, no matter what trends come and go, the one trend that is here to stay is taking care of yourself. Whether you want to create a 7-step skincare routine, or you just want to use the occasional facemask, even the tiniest form of skin care can make the world of difference in making you feel better. After all, the best form of self-care is and always will be to take care of yourself and make yourself feel good.
Self-care is all about taking care of yourself and doing something that makes you feel good. A skincare routine is a great way to feel good about yourself. It's amazing what a little bit of moisturiser can do for self-confidence. Whether it’s just adding moisturiser to your routine or treating yourself to a face mask, the effects of a skincare routine can work wonders for making you feel good. Why not treat yourself to a soak in the bath with some bubbles, a glass of wine, and a facemask, you deserve it.
As we said before, implementing a daily skincare routine is a great way to feel good about yourself. Taking care of yourself and the way you look can make you feel better about the way you look and the way you take care of yourself, which helps to improve feelings of self-worth. Knowing that you take care of yourself, and your appearance can help you to feel more confident in the way you look.
Having confidence in your own skin is something that most people struggle with, even if they hate to admit it. It's not easy to feel comfortable in your own skin and feel confident with how you look and who you are but taking care of yourself is a great first step. Practising a daily skincare routine allows you to take the time you need to show yourself love. It’s easy to criticise yourself but it’s not easy to allow yourself to feel good about yourself. When it comes to self-care, taking care of your skin and the way you look can help you to feel confident in the way you look and have confidence in your own skin.
Not sure where to start or how to create a skincare routine? We’ve shared our top tips for creating a skincare routine that helps you to have radiant skin all year round. Regardless of the change in trends, there are a few things to include in your skincare routine that never go out of style.
Our skin is the largest organ in our body, and it’s also the organ that is exposed to the most harm. Remember those chewing gum adverts that told you the importance of taking care of your teeth – our teeth go through so much, and so does our skin. That’s why it’s important to take care of it. Taking care of our skin has so many benefits, from physical health to well-being, there and so many reasons to be kind to our skin.
Helps Keep Skin Hydrated
During the winter the cold air can have a harsh effect on our skin causing it to become dry. Just like we need to keep our body hydrated, we need to keep our skin hydrated. Think of moisturiser like a glass of water for your skin.
It’s a Form of Self-care
We all know by now how important it is to take care of ourselves and make time for self-care. There is no better way to add daily self-care to your schedule than by starting a daily skincare routine. We all deserve to have a daily pamper session and there is no better feeling than pampered skin just before you go to bed.
You Can Make It Your Own
Just like us, our skin is unique and what works for others might not work for you. Every skin type is different and different skin types require different care. Even the type of moisturiser you choose will need to be suited to your skin type. Chances are you probably won’t find the best products for your skin overnight. Experiment with different products over time and find what works for your skin.
It Boosts Confidence
We all want to feel good in our own skin. Having a skincare routine is a great way to feel good about our skin. We all enjoy a nice pamper session and it usually leaves us feeling good about ourselves. Whether it’s the glow you get after a face mask or the fresh feeling after you cleanse and exfoliate, a skincare routine can be customised to include the things that make you feel good about your skin.
Keeps Skin Healthier
Over time our skin will naturally show signs of exposure to a range of harmful components including UV rays, bacteria, and lack of sleep. Practicing a daily skincare routine helps to combat these issues and prevent them from leaving permanent damage in the future.
How Do You Create a Winter Skincare Routine?
Every season will have a different effect on our skin, so just like the seasons change, our skincare routine should change with them. From switching to an oil-based moisturiser to the type of cleanser to use. When you start your new skincare routine BE CONSISTENT!
]]>The first and the most important product to add to your skincare routine is moisturiser. As we said, the drop in temperature can make out skin extremely dry, that’s why we need to keep it hydrated. Moisturizers help to create a barrier for your skin to protect it from harmful elements.

If you are going to combat dry skin, you need a powerful moisturiser. The Hydromarine Night Moisturizer helps hydrate and renew skin tone and texture to create a vibrant and healthy-looking complexion. Bakuchiol helps to increase the growth of new skin cells, giving your skin a refresh. It also helps reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles It helps to return a youthful face contour.

The skin around our eyes is sensitive, unfortunately, dryness around our eyes during the winter is pretty much inevitable. The good news is, there are things we can do to protect our eyes during the winter by adjusting our skincare routine.

If that isn't enough, we've added our Hydromarine complex for an additional boost!
If you need a pick-me-up, you can try our Anti Fatigue Eye Masque.
The sun going away doesn’t just make the skies grey, a lack of vitamin D can leave our skin looking dull. Adding vitamin C to your skincare routine is a great way to brighten it up and leave it glowing. Vitamin C works wonders for brightening up dark spots and under the eyes.
Michael Marcus Hydromarine Vitamin C Super Serum Plus
This super serum helps firm, hydrate, and improves the appearance of your skin’s tone and texture. Vitamin C helps with the tone, and texture and improves the appearance of smoothness. Drinking plenty of water is the best way to care for your skin. It’s natural and it’s amazing for keeping our skin hydrated.
]]>What is acne-prone skin?
Noninflammatory acne refers to clogged pores that appear as blackheads or whiteheads. It is the mildest and easy to spot. Blackheads have a dark appearance to them, which are majority of the time flat against the skin and whiteheads are small skin-covered bumps.
Inflammatory is anything that is red or robust in appearance. This ranges from papules and pustules to more severe type cysts. Papules are small red bumps, while pustules are small bumps which contain pus. Most of the time, papules will turn into pustules, which is where we become tempted to pick and pop!
What causes acne?
Acne is caused by a combination of hormones, bacteria, and oil. When oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria clog the follicles, sebum cannot escape the pores. This then turns into acne.
Causes of acne can be:
Though, over producing of oil is usually down to hormonal changes like:
This is why hormonal birth control may help manage acne symptoms for some people.
Acne and skin types
Acne is commonly linked to oily skin. After all, we now know excess oil is the known main contributor to breakouts. But dry skin types can still experience acne for a number of reasons, whether it is weather change or poor skin care routine that irritates the skin and clogs pores.
Knowing what your skin type is can help you care for your acne in the best way possible!
Easy way to work out your skin type
First, wash your face with a mild baby soap and gently pat dry (do not apply any skin care products). Then a couple of hours later examine your skin. If it is shiny, you have oily skin. If it appears flaky, rough, or red, you have dry skin. Combination skin will appear fry on the cheeks and shiny on your forehead, nose, and chin.
Preventing breakouts
Treating acne does not involve trying different products. It includes cleansing as well as lifestyle changes.
Effective prevention includes:
Having a healthy relationship with your skin and knowing what works best with it, will allow you to tackle the acne and feel good about yourself.

Indoors our skin is exposed to artificial heating, we spend more time indoors than out now the weather is changing, which can have a negative effect on our skin. Due to this we need to look after our skin and find the right way to look after it now the season is changing.
Follow our essential tips below to keep your skin radiant and glowing. You can also visit our website to view a range of different products we have to get you ready for the cooler months.
Moisturise
Moisturising is important all year round, but in the colder months our central heating can dry our skin out a little more than usual, so make sure you are doubling up on your moisturising stage during your skincare routine. You should be looking to switch to a thicker moisturiser in the morning to create a barrier that will help protect the skin throughout the day and at night you can use a lighter moisturiser to restore and lock in hydration.
Hydration
Great skin starts from within. It may feel colder, but as we are layering up more to keep warm, we lose plenty of water during the day, while it may not feel like we need to drink much. Getting plenty of fluids into the body can allow healthier skin which is hydrated. This helps reduce spot appearance and older looking skin, which instead is radiant and glowing. Just how we love it.
Exfoliation
Your skin is at risk of drying out and getting dull now autumn is here, so use an exfoliator to regularly remove dead skin cells from your skin to keep it looking and feeling fresh.
Sheet mask- treat yourself!
Break out the sheet mask and treat yourself. You may have even saved one you purchased a few months ago for the right time. Autumn is definitely the right time to get your sheet mask out and apply it. Masks are a great way to boost moisture to the skin, plus as the evenings get darker quicker you can treat yourself to some cosy luxury time.
SPF is still important
Suncream may be last on your mind, but the sun can age your skin all year round, which is why you should not be putting the SPF away. UVA causes skin damage even through thick cloud, which is why it is important to include SPF in your morning routine every day before leaving the house.

If you want to amplify your skincare routine with a product that contains more active ingredients than a cleanser or moisturiser, a face serum may be the perfect solution.
Benefits on face serums
Below we will discuss why it is beneficial to use face serums and if you are not using it already in your skincare routine, this may make you think again and look into including it into your daily routine.
Easy to absorb
The formular will be light and non-greasy, thanks to the absence of extras added into the formular. Ingredients are selected which can be easily absorbed into the skin, so that they can start to work immediately.
Nourishing
One small bottle of face serum from a skincare range like Michael Marcus, will have a rich blend of ingredients which are chosen to make your skin look and feel fabulous. They will also add important nutrients and moisturising elements to the skin, which we may be lacking to help improve our skins health. Face serums are formulated to lock in the active properties of all the natural ingredients included.
Boosting collagen
Plumper, firmer and healthier skin is all resulted from feeding it the right things and enabling our skin to produce lots of supportive collagen. One main benefit of face serum is that it can combat tired, dull, and lined skin. By helping it produce the right amount of collagen, it can fight skin problems we may be faced it.
Protection from free radicals
Face serums feed your skin with natural substances that help it to fight free radicals. These are the things which damage our skin, due to environmental factors. Having an improved level of protection means a greater chance of limiting the signs of aging to our skin.
You only need a couple of drops of serum to feel positive effects quickly.

Adjusting your skincare routine throughout the different seasons is essential to maintain healthy and glowing skin all year round. The same way you would not wear a thick woolly jumper in the summer. You need to switch up your winter products and adapt them for the hotter months. With the increased humidity and exposure to sunlight, our skin can act differently during the summer.
You may be thinking “Do I really need to moisturise my skin even if it is 30 degrees and my face feels oily?” The answer is yes, moisturising is important all year round, but making a few changes to what you use will help when the weather is warmer, to prevent your skin becoming overly oily.
A solid routine should be applied all year round, in ever season with different climates. A couples of changes will help the transition from winter to summer. Read below some tips we have put together to adjust your skincare routine this summer.
Don’t forget to exfoliate
Our skin becomes oilier as the weather warms up due to producing much more sweat throughout the day. This causes our skin to become more prone to acne as our pores become more clogged with sweat and oil during the day. Using a light exfoliator daily will help to remove the dead skin cells, preventing blemishes and promote an even skin tone.
Lighten up your skincare routine
During the winter months it is important to user a richer, thicker moisturiser to maintain hydration levels and skin condition. In the hotter weather a lighter formular is much more effectives to prevent the skin in becoming oily in the hot weather. A light moisturiser is enough to lock in the moisture throughout the day, keeping your skin looking fresh and glowing.
SPF, SPF, SPF!
We should be wearing SPF every day, especially in the summer months. You will want to up the strength of your usual sun protection. With more exposure to the sun, it is important to use a minimum of factor 30 SPF and factor 50 if possible. This can be in the form of a moisturiser or sunscreen. Whatever formular you chose to use, this should be applied in the morning and reapplied as needed throughout the day (even cloudy days)!
Hydrated summer skin
Skin is less flaky in the summer months, however it can still easily become dehydrated, so retaining as much moisture as possible is important. A great way to do this is using a hydrating mask 1-2 times a week in order to help keep your skin nourished, moisture and nice and plump in hot weather.

Skin Types
When it comes to our skin it is important that we are looking after it for the future. Giving the correct care to your skin can reduce how quickly our skin will develop wrinkles and ageing. Below we have put together a guide on the ways to look after your skin depending on your skin type. No one’s face is the same and it should be treated with care, to benefit us as we grow older.
Sensitive skin
Firstly, you need to determine whether you have sensitive skin or not. The key signs of sensitive skin are if you skin becomes blotchy or feels itchy when using fragranced products. If you are developing these signs, this most probably means you have sensitive skin.
When you cleanse your skin, make sure you are using something on your face which is calming for the skin to stop irritation. We have a large selection of different cleansers for you to chose form, like our Cleansing foam.
Moisturise, it is a key part! Never skip it; lightweight creams strengthen and repair skin barriers which makes your skin feel soft and smooth, even just after one use. Moisturise daily, day and night smoothing over your face until fully absorbed. You can shop our range of moisturisers by clicking here. We highly recommend our Restore Cellular Moisturiser which is formulated for sensitive skin.
Adding a calming face mask into your skin routine to give your skin some extra TLC. You can use a face mask twice a week for full effectiveness. When applying the face mask to your skin, apply a thin layer and leave on for 15 minutes, to treat your sensitive skin. Always rinse thoroughly after use with lukewarm water and pat your skin dry instead of rubbing as this can cause irritation.
Oily skin
Sebum is vital for healthy skin, but at times we can over produce it causing oily skin which leads to clogged pours and acne. Wash you face regularly to help reduce oil sitting on your skin and deep within the pours. A fragranced free soap should be used on your skin, avoiding rough washcloths as this can stimulate the skin into producing more oil.
As the day goes on you may find your skin to build up with oil. Blotching papers are designed to pull oil from the skin. They will not treat the extra sebum production but can help to lift oils from the skin, making it appear less oily during your morning and evening face wash.
Dry Skin
Flaking, cracks and bleeds are caused from dry skin. Adding or changing a few things in your facial routine can help reduce these symptoms. Apply a moisturiser as soon as you have washed your face to trap the moisture in your skin. Ointments are a great substitute to lotions as it can cause less irritation than lotion on your skin. Lastly, use fragranced-free products on your face, this will be more calming and beneficial.

Beauty trends are constantly changing and brands are competing to keep up with them. Fast beauty is a term that describes when beauty and skincare brands rush to market a product that comprises your skin through use of cheap and harmful ingredients to get a quick cash grab.
One trend that is certainly here to stay is vegan-friendly and cruelty-free products. Over the years, fads have come and gone but we have seen firsthand the benefits of extracting essence and other ingredients from plants to create a range of gentle, calming and impactful skincare solutions.
Here at Michael Marcus, we work really hard to select a diverse range of powerful plant based ingredients that deliver outstanding results. Here we take you through the ideal skincare routine that will allow you to achieve happy skin all year round without harming the environment!
Start with a gentle cleanser
If you’re not already, you should be washing your face day and night. Every time you wear makeup, you need to make sure you remove it properly. Sleeping with makeup on can make the journey to radiant skin near impossible as this clogs your pores and traps dirt. If you’re not entirely sure what your skin type is, we recommend starting with our Exfoliate Jojoba Cleanser with Grapefruit and Orange as it is formulated for all skin types and improves the appearance of skin’s luminosity and radiance. You cannot go wrong with it! Using a cleanser each day will help remove any makeup, replenish moisture and lock in hydration.
Don’t scrimp on the serum
Once you have washed your face, consider adding an additional step between cleansing and moisturizing: serums. Serums can be a secret weapon in targeting common concerns such as dryness or irritation. Serums are absorbed quicker into the skin and allow effective ingredients to do their job easier.
We have a wide range of serums at Michael Marcus that focus on boosting hydration and evening out the skin’s tone and texture. Our nature-inspired, non-irritating, state-of-the-art formulas are here to help you with any skin related issues you’re having.
End with moisturizer
At Michael Marcus, we believe moisturizer is at the heart of every skincare routine. It’s essential for keeping the skin plump, hydrated and healthy looking. It should never be skipped! Made with high-quality, natural ingredients, we have a wide range for all needs and skincare goals. Our products are vegan-friendly, paraben-free as well as free from synthetic fragrance and artificial colorings.

Every so often a new buzz worthy skincare ingredient takes the beauty industry by storm. Many can be considered fads that don’t actually contribute much, but every now and then a real superstar ingredient emerges. One that continues to stand the test of time is the almighty Vitamin C.
Touted as one of the best anti-aging ingredients on the market, Vitamin C has antioxidant properties and aids in your skin’s natural regeneration process. This in turn helps your body repair damaged skin cells.
With this ingredient here to stay, let’s explore some of the many benefits, and how to use it.
Free radicals are unstable atoms that can damage cells, causing illness and aging. In the same way antioxidant-rich foods aids your body in fighting off free radicals, topical antioxidants like Vitamin C do the same but for your skin. When applied to the skin, Vitamin C does a lot to help offset pesky daily aggressors like UV damage and exposure to air pollution.
Aside from its powerful antioxidant properties, it has a wide range of other wonderful benefits too. It is a very hydrating ingredient that is safe for most skin types. A 2017 review showed that Vitamin C application triggers melanin production, which is the pigment responsible for skin colour. Vitamin C can help fade dark spots and give you a youthful glow. It can help reduce the appearance of under-eye circles, protects against sun damage and can even help prevent skin sagging.
Perhaps the biggest benefit of using Vitamin C in your skincare routine is the fact it promotes collagen production. Collagen is a naturally occurring protein that can deplete as we get older over time. Signs of lower levels of collagen are the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C is a well known collagen booster and boosting collagen include improving skin elasticity, skin hydration, and again, leaving your skin with a bright glow.
Kristina Goldenberg, M.D., of Goldenber Dermatology in New York City previously told Allure that: “the key is now the vehicle that vitamin C comes in, but in the form of vitamin C that is being applied”. She recommends looking for products with ascorbic acid as this is the most stable and effective form of Vitamin C in skincare.
In terms of what product you should be seeking out, serums are more effective than creams or toners. What do we recommend, you ask? Well keep your eyes peeled as we are working on something very exciting here at Michael Marcus HQ!
]]>Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from your skin. Each month, our skin produces brand new skin cells and exfoliation assists us in removing the dead layer of cells. Why do we do this? Well it helps maintains youthful and bright-looking skin. Not to mention, it allows other skincare products to absorb and work better too!
There are quite a few misconceptions surrounding exfoliation. Many people use exfoliators that are not suitable for their skin types. Some might have ingredients in them that are too harsh on the skin leaving it stripped of its natural oil, stinging and burning. This reaction then leads to people avoiding exfoliation altogether and that’s the last thing you want to do.
Exfoliation should be a gentle experience, here’s our top tips on how to exfoliate in a better way.
How?
The first thing you need to do is decide which exfoliation route you’d like to take. There are two primary options you can explore: mechanical and chemical. Mechanical exfoliation is when you rely on the use of a tool or scrub to physically remove dead skin cells and chemical is when you use a solution that loosens the bonds between the dead and new skin cells. This allows you to wipe away the old skin layers, revealing brighter skin.
Popular tools include an exfoliating brush, glove or sponge as well as scrubs. For chemical exfoliation, there are 3 main types: Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) and Poly Hydroxy Acids (PHAs).
A great option is our Exfoliate Jojoba Cleanser with jojoba, grapefruit and orange as it is formulated for all skin types. Alternatively, if you’re after a mask check out our Exfoliating Enzyme Peel with pumpkin and papaya.
Our recommending exfoliation routine:
Step 1: Wash your face with your cleanser of choice to remove the excess dirt and impurities of the day. You should exfoliate on a clean canvas!
Step 2: Using a cotton pad or tool of your choice, gently apply your exfoliator across your face in a circular motion. You should take extra care under your eyes and spend no more than 15 seconds on each area.
Step 3: Rinse off with lukewarm water. Do not rub your face, simply splash until the product is removed. You can pat your face gently with a flannel to remove any excess product.
Step 4: Now that your face is clean and exfoliated, it is ready for some hydration. Tone your face to close the pores and then apply moisturiser now your face is free of dead skin cells and ready to shine.
Things to remember:
Why Michael Marcus?
Many of the products on the market use ingredients that are often abrasive and lead to micro-tears of the skin. Here at Michael Marcus skincare, we use a delicate blend of soothing chemicals like glycolic acid or salicylic acid along with organic and natural plant-derived ingredients such as: papaya, pumpkin, jojoba beads, orange and grapefruit. These organic extracts come with a range of benefits such as reducing inflammation, opening clogged pores, providing antioxidant properties as well as increasing cell turnover.
]]>While we have always concentrated on organic, sustainable, ecologically friendly ingredients like what our competitors tout, they are also tested over time to be non-toxic, non-allergenic and actually much better than any we have seen in the marketplace. Now with a new shopping platform and a streamlined business, my goal is to continue to bring you a high quality product at a more affordable price by creating “value” sets and spectacular offers.
When it comes to my products, Hydromarine™ is at the center of everything I create. Why, you ask?
Hydromarine is my “fountain of youth” .
And what exactly is Hydromarine™?
When I was 15, I was lucky enough to visit Hawaii. Being a sun worshipper, I of course fell asleep in the sun. Waking up to the side of my face blistering was a little alarming. Our local guide had me put seaweed on it. Miraculously, it healed fast and stupidly I was back in the sun in 4 days. I was 15….
In my mid 20’s I became obsessed with the cosmetic world and as I approached the dreaded age of 30, I started developing my own products.
Recalling my youth, I reflected back to my time in Hawaii.
I learned that the volcanic ash and lava are packed with the earths’ nutrients. It is absorbed into the soil and water and is an incredible natural fertilizer. Through the active volcanic activity of Kilauea mother nature is providing the plant life around Hawaii with constant natural fertilization. The water contains a significantly higher concentration of trace minerals. Trace minerals are necessary to promote more youthful looking skin.
So to answer the question directly as to what Hydromarine™ is - Hydromarine™ is a synergistic cocktail of sea extracts that work to support skin’s natural repair mechanisms. Broken down, Hydromarine is a combination of:
I love what the sea holds. The healing components of salt, marine and plant life… there’s just nothing quite like a trip to the sea to feed and heal the soul. Hydromarine™ is the sea in a bottle (or jar).
Hydromarine™ is the perfect blend of what we need to maintain and maximize our skin potential.
]]>It is just like working out or even a diet. If you only workout once a week you do not get a lot of benefit from it. I am guilty of skipping a few days at time too.
Your skincare regimen can be simple. It does not have to be complicated.
Just be consistent!
